National Service Scheme was formally launched on 24th September, 1969, the birth centenary year of Father of the Nation by the then Union Education Minister,                Dr. V.K.R.V. Rao in 37 Universities with the strength of 40,000 volunteers. Today, the strength of NSS Volunteers has increased to more than 2.5 million and is spread all over the country covering almost all the Universities. Hence, 24th September is celebrated every year as NSS Day.

TNAU NSS at a glance

At TNAU, National Service Scheme is offered as a curricular programme with a credit load of 0+1. Regular activities will be carried out by the volunteers for the first four semesters in the colleges and adopted villages. At the end of the fourth semester, special camp is organized for seven days in the adopted villages and compulsorily, the students will stay in the village itself. TNAU is having 25 funded units and 19 self-funded units covering 14 constituent colleges and 27 affiliated colleges.

Under regular and special camping programmes, NSS volunteers are involved in personality development programmes, societal awareness programmes and awareness rallies, programmes on health services viz., medical camps and veterinary camps, service oriented programmes viz., blood donation, visit to orphanages, tuition for school children, distribution of relief materials during natural calamities, swachh bharat and clean campus programmes, tree planting and dissemination of agricultural technologies in the college premises and in the adopted villages.

Red Ribbon Club

  • TNAU was awarded with Best Red Ribbon Club, 2019 by NACO, New Delhi for the activities like awareness programmes on blood donation, AIDS awareness programmes , conducted during the year.
