Dr K.S. Subramanian, Director of Research and formerly NABARD Chair Professor and Founder HOD of Nano Science & Technology did his Ph.D. at the University of Ottawa, Canada, utilizing one of the most prestigious Canadian Commonwealth Scholarships (1993-1998). He has more than 33 years of research and teaching experiences in TNAU and expertise in the fields of nanotechnology in agriculture and soil biology.
Dr. K.S. Subramanian is the Founder Head established state-of-the-art facility which is recognized as the referral laboratory for the development, evaluation and validation of nano-enabled processes and products besides notification in the country. He served as the Convener of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) Platform during 11th and 12th Five Year Plans till 2017 in developing a Research Framework of Nanotechnology in Agriculture. He is one of the core committee members in Regulatory Framework for the usage of agri-nano products in the country and members in several governing professional and academic organizations. He serves as the member in RAC of IISS, Bhopal, IFGTB, Coimbatore, Sugarcane Breeding Institute, Coimbatore, DST Nano Mission, ICAR – NASF, DBT and Nano-fertilizer policy of the country.
Dr. K.S. Subramanian is the Principal Investigator of several International and National Projects worth over Rs. 30 Crores (5 million USD) funded by Global Affairs Canada (GAC), International Development Research Center (IDRC), DST Nano Mission besides ICAR. He has significantly contributed to the development of nano-technologies for fruit preservation, design & fabrication of nano-agri-inputs, nano-based on-site detection kits. This lead to the development fifteen technologies and the notable ones are nano-emulsion for fruit preservation, nano-stickers & pellets for the preservation of perishables, on-site detection kits for the assessment of nitrogen and moisture in plants, nano-fibre coating for the smart delivery of inputs through seed encapsulation, nutria-capsule for multi-nutrient delivery besides scientific validation of IFFCO Nano Urea which was introduced for adoption across the country in February 2021.
Dr. K.S. Subramanian published over 220 research papers in peer-reviewed journals and six books on Nanotechnology, participated as a lead speaker in various national and international conferences. He has more than 14 awards to his credentials and the notable ones being Canadian Commonwealth, TANSA (Tamil Nadu Scientist Award) and FAI National Award for nano-fertilizer research in 2020, Niche Area of Excellence in Nanotechnology and Won Gold Medal for receiving highest competitive research grants in TNAU. He has more than 15 technologies developed and 2 filed patents to his credit. His publications highly referred in the field of agricultural nanotechnology and mycorrhiza-plant interactions.
