Agricultural College and Research Institute (AC & RI), Kudumiyanmalai, Pudukkottai district is one of the four newly sanctioned constituent colleges of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore as per GO (No 173) dt.20.11.2014 and started and functioning since 25.08.2014. Positioned on the Pudukottai-Manapparai SH 74, the campus is located 18 KM West of Pudukkottai town. This residential campus offers B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture programme, with an allotted strength of 100 students per year.
An area of 110 acres carved out of Annapannai, Kudumiyanmalai has been allotted to this new college. The soil is red sandy loam with a pH of 6.5. Annual rainfall of 960mm is spread over few months. There are 9 open wells, 5 borewells, 5 water harvest tanks and two above ground water storage tanks. A 50ac farm complex complete with farm office, labs, processing unit, seed / pesticide store, threshing floor, animal shed and shed for implements have been provided. Implements, equipments viz;, seed drill, kono weeder, cultivator, rotavator, chisel plough, disc harrow along with two tractors, one mini tractor and mitubisi power tiller are available. Animal shed complex replete with dairy unit, cattle shed, goatery, piggery and poultry are under construction. Biogas facilities like Denabandu model, KVIC model are available.
The campus is involved in imparting agricultural education and extension. All the requisite infrastructure necessary to provide a wholistic education is available as 16 labs including B class meteorological observatory, stadium, generator 125KVA along with well paved roads that are adequately lit using LED lamps and HiMast light. Computer lab with internet facility and Language Lab Software has also been installed in the computers for improving the English Knowledge of the students. Laboratory facilities for different discipline are being established for elevating the students with lots of practical sessions. Crop Cafetaria with various crops has been established in the college farm for disclosing hands-on information on various crops. Internet facility is being utilised by the students for various aspects like seminar presentations, assignment writings and to explore additional information about their subjects.
Well established gym and sports facilities are available in this campus for strengthening the physical calibre of the students. Separate courts like volley ball, football, shuttle, Kho-Kho, Kabaddi, Cricket, flood lit baseket ball courts separately for women and men and Field tracks have been established for improving the individual skill and capacities of the students in various events. Indoor games like chess, carom, table tennis are also available for improving the mental ability of the students. The library is equipped with 3450 number of reference books and CD’s in various topics. Separate hostels for boys to house 200nos. and girls to house 300nos. have been established that have generator facilities (65KVA) along with gym, dining hall, dormitories, play area, cycle stand, RO water treatment plant and washing area with washing machine.
Apart from academic infrastructure, guest house, Dean’s quarters, staff quarters, canteen, hospital, ampitheater have also been provided. Cauvery Drinking water scheme has been implemented that provides 15KL of water from Cauvery project. Academic halls cum lab are under construction, along with Trainee hostel.
This campus has well established class rooms with LCD Projectors and smart boards. Transport facility interms of 50 seater bus, two omni, one bolero and three mazdas are available for exposure visits to various institutions, farmer’s fields, sister departments etc. for stirring students’ acquaintance on various subjects.
