About the Department
The Department of Farm Machinery and Power Engineering was established in 2014 as one of the constituent Department of Agricultural Engineering College and Research Institute, Kumulur-621 712, Trichy District. The Department was formed to pursue excellence in teaching, research and development, industrial collaboration and farmer’s hands-on training. The Department mainly offers courses to the Diploma and Under graduate (UG) degree programmes in Agricultural Engineering. This department is well established with various research facilities for carrying out active research programmes in design and development in the field of Farm Power and Machinery covering the broad areas of Machinery Design, Tillage and Traction Study, Automations, Sensor Based Studies and Development of Implements and Tools for field and horticultural crops. Department has developed 14 technologies. Most of these technologies have been commercialized and are being extensively used by the farmers across the country.
Vision
To identify the need and gap in present day farming operations, to develop small scale farm equipment and machinery for various operations, to produce technical manpower, formulate research programmes. Transforming life through excellence in education, research and extensions.
Mission
To carryout teaching, research and extension on farm machinery and power engineering and to develop drudgery free and advanced equipment’s for the stakeholders in order to substituting/complement the existing machinery for improving the output.
Mandate
- To offer courses to under Graduate (UG) and diploma programmes in the field of Farm Machinery and Power Engineering.
- To conduct research and development on farm implements and machinery for different agro-climatic regions.
- To impart skill training to the rural youth and to promote the improved machineries to the farmers through demonstration and participating in the various Agri exhibition
- To test agricultural machinery manufactured within the country or imported with a view to assess their functional suitability and performance reliability

- Identification of mechanization gaps for future research
- To conduct the research and development of farm machines, suitable to small and marginal farmers
- To develop drudgery free, safety, effective and multipurpose farm machines
Mandate 3
To impart skill training to the rural youth and to promote the improved machineries to the farmers through demonstration and Agri exhibition
The basic objectives of Mandate 3
- Educating farmers on the use and maintenance of farm implements/Equipments
- Training the village artisans on the fabrication and maintenance of farm equipments
- Conduct of demonstration and Agri exhibitions
Mandate 4
To test agricultural machinery manufactured to assess their functional suitability and performance reliability
The basic objectives of Mandate 4
- To evaluate the farm machinery/equipment both for developmental and production models.
- To suggest the manufacturers for improving their products, technical literature like service manual, performance data sheets etc.
