Welcome to the Department of Agricultural Extension and Rural Sociology, TNAU, Coimbatore. It was founded in 1971. Since then, it has been playing a pioneering role in the growth and development of extension science with specific reference to research, education and training in extension education.
The Department offers UG courses, PG and Ph.D. degree programmes in Agriculture Extension and Communication. Courses fall under the areas of rural sociology and educational psychology, fundamentals of agricultural extension education, communication skills and personality development and Rural Agricultural Work Experience (RAWE) . RAWE, one of the components of student READY programme is an important competence and confidence building programme that introduced to the agricultural graduates during their final year. The programme is designed to draw effective work experience training strategies incorporating rural agricultural experiential learning approaches and provides opportunities to students to engage themselves in real world of practical experience, to review and analyze critically actual field situations to draw solid conclusions.
In tune to the digitalization era, the department is having Digital Extension Innovation Lab (DEIL) which facilitates students with experience on Advance digital tools in skill development for inculcating entrepreneurial skills in Video production technologies and Media advertising. Recently 18 and 10 postgraduate students have qualified ASRB NET and UGC NET respectively. In this department 5 students have been awarded with UGC fellowship, 4 students with ICSSR fellowship and one student with JNMF fellowship.
The department is augmented with well qualified faculties excel in teaching, research and extension and also holding adequate facilities viz, students library and student work station with Wi-fi facility. Apart from teaching our faculty members have published research papers in National and International journals. It grew leaps and bounds under dynamic leaders. Our Alumni have grown to great heights and they constantly interact with the students and motivate them to excel in various heights.
