The Department of Plant Pathology was established at the AC&RI, Killikulam,Vallanad -628252 during the year 1991 to offer courses on Plant Pathology for the B.Sc.(Agri.).,programme. The Post Graduate programme in Plant Pathology was started in the department during the year 2010.Currently the department is focusing research on disease management in rice, banana and vegetable and flower crops. The department is equipped with modern laboratory equipments. The department is functioning with OG teaching unit, PG research unit, Edible mushroom unit, biocontrol agents production unit and Bio Inoculants production unit. The department is offering training on Edible mushroom cultivation on 15th of every month. The department is operating a venture capital scheme to supply the inputs to the farming community. The department is regularly carrying out the activities with the three components viz., teaching, research and extension.
Teaching The department is offering four regular courses and two experiential learning courses for the B.Sc.(Hons.)., Agriculture programme under 2020 syllabus and twelve courses for the M.Sc.(Agri)., programme in Plant Pathology2020 and 2021batch.

- Extending Technical support to the state department of Agriculture and Horticulture.
- Pest and disease surveillance on Fruit crops in Tirunelveli district
- Production and supply of mushroom spawn bags to the mushroom growers
- Production and supply of commercial formulation of Bacillus subtilis and Trichodermaasperellum
- Imparting training on mushroom cultivation and spawn production to the unemployed youth and farm women in southern districts of Tamil Nadu
- Production and Supply of pulse based bioinoculants (Rhizobium, Pseudomonas and VAM) in semisolid condition using Tangential flow filtration(TFF) system
- Production and supply of rice based bioinoculants (Azospirillum, Azotobacter, Pseudomonas, Phosphobacteria and PPFM) in liquid condition (300ml) using Fermentors / TFF system
