Achievements
- Assessed the geospatial distribution of micronutrients in Tamirabarani command area.
- Delineated Theri lands in Southern Districts.
- Delineated Si status in the intensively rice growing soil of Tamirabarani command area.
- Identified and Isolated zinc solubilizing bacteria which could be utilized as the best source of zinc for maize plants in future.
Extension Activities
- Farmers problems and queries are routinely attended and suitable solutions and recommendations are given. The Scientists regularly attend the Zonal workshops held at AC & RI, Killikulam.
- Guest Lectures and demonstrations on Vermicompost, Panchagavya and Jeevamirtham production; Crop residue and its management; Importance of biofertilizers in rice cultivation are delivered in the block level trainings organized by NADP – ATMA.
Trainings Conducted
- Fertilizer Orientation Programme was conducted for Final Year Undergraduates with the sponsorship from Fertilizer Association of India, Chennai.
- Awareness and Transfer of Technology programme was conducted for Theri land farmers to improve the productivity of Groundnut.
- Training on ‘Vermicompost Production’ sponsored by NABARD for beneficiaries of Self-help group of Cheranmahadevi.
- Off campus training programmes were given to the farmers related to improved production Technologies (IPT) in Nichabanadhi sub basin under TN-IAMWARM.
Future Programmes
- Remote sensing application using satellite imageries for mapping degraded lands (Salt affected lands and Theri lands)
- Delineating and geospatial mapping of secondary and micronutrient deficiencies in problems soils
- Management of soil related constraints.
- Management of Sea water intrusion in coastal Ecosystem
