Since its inception, the department of Agricultural Extension at Agricultural College and Research Institute, Madurai is bearing tripart work Teaching, Research and Extension. The department is bestowed with experienced teaching faculty, more than 30 years of teaching both in Undergraduate and Post graduate levels. So far 300 M.SC and 12 Ph.D students Completed Successfully from this department .
This department equipped with Multimedia Lab with Video Conference facilities and language lab . We have track record of passed out students of this department secured highest positions in formal and private organization. The highlights of the department in research activities one, collaborate external funded schemes from, ICAR – New Delhi, DST of GOI & NABARD.
The thrust areas covered in the external schemes were Empowerment of dryland farm women, rural youth in Agriculture, Evaluation of watershed activity, livelihood of farmers, credit for rural development etc. The department is poised to take up macro-modelling of adoption to climate change of sustainability, livelihood security and crop planning of dry land farmers, structural changes in rural employment.
