Annexure I: Contributions to Teaching

  • Involved in teaching B.Sc. (Forestry), M.Sc. (Forestry) and Ph.D. (Forestry) programs for more than 23 years since 1995
  • At the capacity of a teacher and Member, Board of Studies (Forestry), I have involved and contributed to the revision of four B.Sc. (Forestry) syllabi viz., 1999, 2003, 2007, 2011, 2015, 2017 and M.Sc. /Ph.D. syllabi during 2004, 2008 and 2012
  • As the Coordinator of RAWE programme since 1995, I have restructured its contents by including attachment to the Special Task Force and NGOs.
  • Involved and contributed in all the students’ related activities by taking various responsibilities viz., Supplementary Exam Coordinator, Year Coordinator (1998-2002), NSS Programme Officer, Ward Counselor and Staff Associates in various students’ club. At these capacities, I counseled, guided and motivated the students to groom them into good personalities.
  • Actively involved and contributed in developing syllabi in the newly proposed seven M.Sc. Specialization Programmes in Forestry.

Annexure II: Contributions to Research

  • Received the Jawaharlal Nehru Award for the Best P.G. Research 1999 in the field of Forestry for Ph.D. thesis on Neem (Azadirachta indicaJuss.)
  • Released (Introduced) the Paradise Tree (Simarouba glauca), the multipurpose evergreen edible oil-yielding tree, to the farmers of Tamil Nadu during January 2000.
  • Assembled Germplasm in Neem, Simaruba, Annatto, underutilized crops like grain amaranth and rice bean.
  • Identified superior genotypes and clones in the above mentioned species for promotion of commercial plantations.
  • Principal and Co-Principal Investigator for eleven externally funded projects on various commercially important tree species
  • Developed package of practices and vegetative propagation techniques for mass multiplication and promotion of Azadirachta indica, Simarouba glauca and Bixa orellana
  • Signed MoA with Coromandel Bio (previously EID Parry) Ltd., and GNFC, Gujarat for promotion of industrial and farm plantations of neem over an area of 1500 acres
  • With three externally funded projects in Neem (2 completed and one ongoing), identified 34 high oil and azadirachtin genotypes and clones
  • Established Neem Field Gene Bank and Progeny Evaluation Trials at Mettupalayam and Thyagavalli

Annexure III: Contributions to Extension

  • Promote the cultivation of Neem, Simaruba, Annatto, Grain Amaranth and Ricebean in Tamil Nadu.
  • Answered the queries of farmers and commercial tree growers on tree farming.
  • Organized many tree-planting programs as NSS Officer and Farm Manager.
  • Dissemination of research results through guest lectures in farmers’ meet, trainings, field days, FLDs, radio talk, TV programmes, and popular articles in print media.
  • Conducted many eco awareness programs, nature festivals, wildlife weeks, earth hours for the school children of Mettupalayam.
  • Organized 5 training programs on underutilized crops for the tribes of Nilgiris and Anamalais,

  • Established Forest Biotechnology Lab with GC-MS, Soxhlet Apparatus, PCR, etc for staff and students’ research.
  • Established UG lab in the Department of Forest biology and Tree Improvement for a students’ capacity of 60
  • Cleared, leveled, ploughed and developed around 60 acres of land in J, K and E blocks of the Institute for field trials, dye park and arboretum with solar fencing and drip irrigation
  • Established Annatto dye park over an area of 35 acres at FC&RI, Mettupalayam, 5 acres at HC&RI, Periyakulam and 20 acres at AC&RI, Killikulamas using the funds from NADP and TANII
  • Cleared and developed an area of 80 acres at AC&RI, Killikulam under NADP project on Annatto
  • Erected two new bore wells at FC&RI, Mettupalayam and one new bore well at AC&RI, Killikulam under TANII funds

  • At the capacity of a teacher and Member, BoS (Forestry & PGS) and Professor (Education), I have involved and contributed to the revision of four B.Sc. (Forestry) syllabi viz., 1999, 2003, 2007, 2011, 2015, 2017 and M.Sc. /Ph.D. syllabi during 2004, 2008 and 2012
  • As the Coordinator of RFWE programme, I have restructured its contents by including attachment to the Special Task Force for Jungle Survival Training for 1 Week, which is unique and first of its kind exclusive and only for IV B.Sc.(Forestry) students
  • Instrumental in motivating students for competitive exams particularly UPSC through many HR, PD and Self-realization Programmes at Mettupalayam and Periaykulam
  • Member in the Academic Board of FC&RI, Mulugu, Telengana and involved in the formulation of syllabus for B.Sc. (Honors) in Forestry
  • Formed Vriksham Club on 22.9.2015 at FC&RI, Mettupalayam with support and contribution of Alumnii of FC&RI to coach the students for civil services and other competitive examinations
  • Organized many motivational and HR programmes at Mettupalayam and Periyakualam for the students to help them to increase the scope of their placement with special reference to Civil Services

  • Developed package of practices and vegetative propagation techniques for mass multiplication and promotion of Azadirachta indica, Simarouba glauca and Bixa orellana
  • Signed MoA with Coromandel Bio (previously EID Parry) Ltd., and GNFC, Gujarat for promotion of industrial and farm plantations of neem over an area of 1500 acres
  • Identified 34 high oil and azadirachtin genotypes of Neem, 20 high Bixin genotypes of Annatto and 20 genotypes of Wrightia tinctoria
  • Established field gene banks of Annatto, Neem and Wrightia tinctoria
  • Established Progeny Evaluation Trials in Annatto, Neem and Wrightia tinctoria
  • Established Natural Dye Parks over an area of 150 acres under NADP and TANII projects
  • Assembled 12 dye yielding tree species in the Dye Park, Mettupalayam

  • Dissemination of research results through guest lectures in farmers’ meet, trainings, field days, FLDs, radio talk, TV programmes, and popular articles in print media.
  • Conducted many eco awareness programs, nature festivals, wildlife weeks, earth hours for the school and college children of Mettupalayam.
  • Organized training programs on underutilized crops for the tribes of Nilgiris and Anamalais
  • Organized 12 training programs on Annatto cultivation and its uses to various stake holders including farmers under NADP project
