NCC
National Cadet Corps (NCC) is a voluntary organization which is administered by the Ministry of Defence. NCC in India was conceptualized and raised before independence, mainly with an aim to groom the youth, boys and girls both, nurture them and channelize their energy towards nation building by making them responsible citizens.
The main aim of NCC is
- To develop inter and intra personal qualities such as character, comradeship, discipline, secular outlook, spirit of adventure, sportsmanship, ideals of selfless service among the youth of the country.
- To create a human resource of organized, Trained and Motivated youth, to provide leadership in all walks of life and always be available for the service of the nation.
- To provide a suitable environment to motivate the youth to take up a career in the Armed Forces.
There are seventeen NCC directorates located in each state capitals of our nation. NCC senior division / senior wing (Company 8/14 (TN) Bn. NCC) has been started at Horticultural College and Research Institute, Periyakulam on August 2018 with an allotted strength of 52 cadets. This unit is attached with fourteenth NCC battalion, Dindigul under the Trichy group head quarters of Tamil Nadu, Pudhucherry & Andaman Nicobar directorate. Lieutenant Dr. R. Balakumbahan, Assistant Professor (Horticulture) is acting as the Associate NCC officer of this institute.
