Molecular Breeding and Genotyping in the Seed Industry
Dr. N. Jagadeeshselvam is a Scientist in the Biotechnology Division at the Research & Development Centre of Rasi Seeds (P) Ltd., one of India’s leading hybrid seed companies renowned for its innovation in crop breeding and commitment to sustainable agriculture. He focuses on molecular breeding and genomic tools for crop improvement in rice. Dr. Jagadeeshselvam earned his Master’s and Ph.D. in Biotechnology from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), where he developed a strong foundation in plant molecular biology. His expertise spans SNP genotyping, allele mining, genetic purity testing, and the application of bioinformatics tools for marker development and diversity analysis. He has also participated in advanced training programs, including a Genomic Selection workshop at IRRI.
In addition to his research contributions, he has been actively involved in implementing high throughput genotyping workflows, developing trait-specific molecular markers, and applying machine learning tools for agricultural data analysis. He has led projects on screening for BLB, BPH, and Gall Midge resistance genes, TGMS-based hybrid development, DNA fingerprinting for varietal registration, and allele mining for yield and stress tolerance traits in rice. Passionate about bridging research and real-world applications, Dr. Jagadeeshselvam works on integrating molecular techniques and computational biology to create innovative solutions for sustainable agriculture.
