Venture Capital Scheme - Hands-on training in Sequence and Structure Analysis: Molecular modeling, Docking and Simulation
July 22nd – 23rd 2022
The Department of Plant Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Centre for Plant Molecular Biology and Biotechnology organized two days “Hands-on training in Sequence and Structure Analysis: Molecular modeling Docking and Simulation” through the hybrid mode from July 22nd – 23rd 2022 at CPMB&B, TNAU, Coimbatore under Venture Capital (V 60 KE) scheme. This training provided hands-on training for faculty/scientists, students of UG/PG/PhD from TNAU and other institutions in Life Science stream on the Molecular modeling Docking and Simulation.
The training was advertised through the Website and an invitation was sent to various colleges through E.Mail. We received about 90 applications and finally, 82 participants attended the training from 10 different institutes across India and one Institute from the Tokyo University of Agriculture, Tokyo, Japan. Among them, 47 Participants attended training through offline mode and 35 participants through online mode.
The Participants are from Tokyo University of Agriculture, Tokyo, IARI, NewDelhi, Pondicherry University, Bharathidasan University, Adhiyamaan college of engineering, Pasteur Institute of India, IFGTB, Mahatma Gandhi Phule Krishi Vidya Peeth, Rahuri, Maharastra, Vanavarayar Institute of Agriculture, College of Agriculture Technology, Theni.
The Participants from various departments from TNAU include Biotechnology, Entomology, Crop Physiology, Microbiology, Nano Science and Technology, Pathology and Horticulture. The Training started with the inaugural session on 22nd July. The inaugural session started with a welcome address by Dr. R. Gnanam, Prof & Head (DPMB&B), About the training was by Director (CPMB&B) , Special Address was delivered by Director (Agri Bussiness Development) and Vote of Thanks by N. Bharathi, Asst Prof (Bioinfo). The training is scheduled to have two lectures in the morning session followed by a hands-on session in the afternoon.
The first lecture was delivered by Dr. Selvaa Kumar C. Head, Department of Bioinformatics, D.Y.Patil University, C.B.D.Belapur on Significance of Biological database in structural Bioinformatics. the second session was delivered by Dr. Prabhakaran, S (Ph.D.) Scientist III, National Institute of Plant Genome Research (NIPGR) on the topic Elucidating three-dimensional protein structure using computational approaches. The afternoon session was dealt with the Computational method of Protein modeling using Modeller by N. Bharathi, Assistant Professor (Bio info) and Dr. R. Caroline Nirmala, Teaching Assistant,
The second day of the training started with the lecture by Dr. Archana Prabhakar, Post Doctoral fellow, Cleveland state university on the topic Computational approaches for drug discovery. The next talk was delivered by Dr. Shiv Bharatwaj, Postdoctoral Scientist, Prague, the Czech Republic on the topic Basics of Molecular dynamic simulation of a protein-ligand complex. The second day hands-on experience was on the topic of Molecular Docking by Dr. N. Jayakanthan, Assistant Professor (Bio info) and Simulation using GROMACS by Dr. N. Saranya, Assistant Professor (Bio info).
The assignments were given for the participants on each topic of the hands-on experience through Google classroom. A separate whatsapp group was created for the trainees for quick updates. The manual was prepared and hosted in the google classroom.
Subsequently, the valedictory session started with a Welcome address by Dr. N. Saranya (Bioinfo), an Asst Professor Training report presentation by N. Bharathi, Assistant Professor (Bioinfo). The participants provided feedback about the training and it was well received. The offline participants received the certificates. The certificate was distributed by Dr. N. Senthil (Director, CPMB&B), and Dr. R. Gnanam, Prof & Head (DPMB&B). The formal Vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. M. Jayakanthan Assistant Professor (Bioinfo).
