Hands on training on “Basics of DNA Fingerprinting

A two day hands on training programme entitled “Basics of DNA Fingerprinting” was organized from 08th to 09th May, 2024 at the Department of Plant Biotechnology, Centre for Plant Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University. A total of 17 participants from Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra participated in the training programme, comprising of M.Sc and Ph.D students from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Annamalai University, Marathwada Agricultural University, Sastra University, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru College of Agriculture & Research Institute, Karaikal, Bannariamman Institute of technology,  and  the Institute of Forest Genetics and Tree Breeding. The training programme was inaugurated by Dr. N. Senthil, Director,  CPMB&B. Dr. E.Kokiladevi, Professor and Head, Department of Plant Biotechnology welcomed the gathering. The special address was delivered by Dr. R. Ravikesavan, Director CPBG. Following the inaugural session, a series of lectures were delivered by subject matter specialists on basics of molecular markers and their applications in DNA fingerprinting. Hands on experience were imparted on DNA extraction protocols, PCR techniques for hybrid identification and fingerprinting of plant varieties. Participants were trained on  NTSys software for genetic diversity analysis. The two day training programme concluded with the valedictory session organized on 09th May, 2024, with Dr. N. Senthil, Director CPMB&B presiding the function. The session ended with positive feedbacks from the candidates, followed by distribution of training certificate to the participants.
