PG Skill Development Programme on Molecular modeling and Docking
February 4-5, 2023
The Department of Plant Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics, Centre for Plant Molecular Biology and Biotechnology and the School of Post Graduate Studies jointly organized the PGfinishing school programmeon “Molecular Modeling and Docking” on 4th and 5th February for the post graduate and doctoral students. Among the 55 total registered participants (17 PG and 38 Ph. D.), 20 participants from different agricultural science departments which includes Agricultural Microbiology, Agricultural Entomology, Genetics and Plant Breeding, Plant Pathology, PlantPhysiology, Sericulture, Nematology, and Vegetable Science were selected for this programme.
Two days training programme started with the welcome address by Dr. E. Kokila Devi, Profeessor and Head, Dept. of Biotechnology followed by inaugural address by Dr. N. Senthil, Dean (SPGS) & Director (CPMB&B) on which he explained the importance of bioinformatics skills in performing good research towards high impact publications. First session was handled by Mrs. N. Bharathi, Assistant Professor (Bioinformatics) who imparted a wider knowledge on biological databases and its applications. Second session on the first day was given by Dr. M Jayakanthan, Assistant Professor (Bioinformatics) on protein modelling and validationaspects.
On 5th February 2023, explanation on protein binding site prediction, ADMET properties and ligand structure retrieval was done by Dr. R. Caroline Nirmala, Teaching Assistant (Bioinformatics). Afternoon session was handled by Dr. N Saranya, Assistant Professor (Bioinformatics) about protein-ligand docking and interaction studies. Followed by this was the valedictory session, where Dr. E. Kokila Devi, Professor and Head, Dept. of Biotechnology welcomed the gathering, Dr. N. Senthil, Dean (SPGS) & Director (CPMB&B) presided the meetingand Mrs. N. Bharathi, Assistant Professor (Bioinformatics) has given the training report elaborating the two-day event. The valedictory session was graced by the Controller of Examinations Dr. V. Balasubramani by sharing his valuable insights. Feedback from the participants was received and the programme came to an end with vote of thanks proposed by Dr. M JayakanthanAssistant Professor (Bioinformatics).
