The Department of Fruit Crops was established at the time of formation of University during 1972 and since then, intensive research, education and extension activities are being carried out to promote fruit crops cultivation. The department has highly experienced and dedicated faculty to impart quality research and education to the students. Our mandatory areas of research are breeding, crop management, plant protection and postharvest technology of fruit crops. Our prime focus of research is on resistance breeding in banana and papaya at national and international level. Recently, we have established a demonstration block on Ultra High Density planting system in mango at our College Orchard, TNAU for the welfare of farmers and students.
The Department has well established orchard with nursery (production and sales), field gene bank for banana and papaya, sapota and guava varietal museums and experimental plots. In addition, we have well equipped tissue culture laboratory, UG and PG laboratories with computer facilities.
