Technologies developed
Banana
- Cultivation of banana cv. Dwarf Cavendish under double hedgerow system with the spacing 1.0 x 1.6 x 2.4 m for higher yield.
- Closer spacing (5’ x 6’) in banana cv. Robusta for higher bunch weight in main, first and second ratoon crops.
- Higher fruit yield in banana cv. Robusta adopting a spacing of 1.2 x 1.2 x 2m under double hedgerow system
- Banana – lablab intercropping system for higher returns.
- Black polyethylene as effective mulch for banana
- Application of 110:35:330g NPK per plant for higher fruit yield in banana Robusta
- Higher bunch weight in banana cv. Poovan under a spacing of 2.1 x 2.1m
- High-density planting (2 x 2m with three suckers per hill) for higher fruit yield in banana cv. Nendran
- High-density planting (3.6 m x 1.8 m with three suckers/hill) for higher yield per hectare with 50% saving in fertilizer cost in banana cv. Robusta
- Application of 50 per cent NPK in soil and rest through foliar sprays at 3rd, 5th, 7th and 9th month for better fruit yield in banana cvs. Robusta and Nendran
- Foliar application of ZnSO4 (0.5%) + CuSO4 (0.2%) + FeSO4 (0.2%) + H3BO3 (0.1%) during 3rd and 5th month after planting for higher fruit yield and quality in banana cv. Robusta.
- Bunch spray of 2, 4-D within 20 days of last hand opening for controlling seediness (Kottaivazhai) in banana cv. Poovan.
- Use of white transparent bunch cover with 2 per cent ventilation for early maturity, lower blemishes and improved fruit characters in banana.
- Fertigation schedule with 100 per cent N & K and soil application of 100 per cent P for higher bunch weight and B:C ratio in banana cv. Robusta.
Papaya
- Application of 50g each in N, P and K at bimonthly intervals from third month after planting, along with biofertilizers and bio inoculants (Azospirillum + VAM(50g/plant) + PSB + Pseudomonas fluorescens (25g/plant) + Trichoderma viride (50g/plant) + PSB + Pseudomonas fluorescens (25g/plant) + Trichoderma viride (50g/plant) for more number of fruits and higher fruit weight.
- Application of 50g each in N, P and K per plant at bi-monthly intervals from the third month of planting after removing unwanted sex forms and 20g each in Azospirillum and Phosphobacterium at planting and again six months after planting for higher fruit yields.
- Application of 10 litres of water per day + 13.5g urea and 10.5g muriate of potash per week through fertigation for more number of fruits and higher fruit weight.
- Foliar application of ZnSO4 5 % + H3BO3 0.1 % during the fourth and eighth month after planting for improved fruit and latex yield.
- Maintenance of one male tree for 20 female trees for proper fruit set.
- Closer spacing of 1.4 X 1.4m for the higher number of fruits and 1.8 X 1.8m for better papain yield per fruit.
Grapes
- Spraying of GA3 at 20 ppm at berry diameter of 8-10 mm for Grapes cv.Red Globe increased the bunch weight (783.04 g), yield per vine (17.23 kg) and yield per hectare (41.50 t) and the highest BC ratio of 4.89 as against 2.57 in control
- Allowing fruiting in 50% of the canes and vegetative growth in remaining 50% of the canes resulted in the highest cumulative yield of 38.20 kg / vine against 31.50 kg/ vine in conventional method (allowing fruiting in all the canes of a vine).
