Dr. V. Rajasree had been graduated from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University with distinction.  She had completed her doctoral degree with the IARI merit medal for the outstanding academic performance in Ph.D (Vegetable Science) from IARI in 1998.  Later She joined as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Vegetable Science, HC&RI, TNAU in 2005 and continued her research, teaching and extension activities pertaining to the vegetable crops.  She is pioneer in breeding five F1 hybrids in cucurbits in bottle gourd, Ash gourd, ridge gourd, Snake gourd and coccinia and four varieties in dolichos bean, tomato and amaranthus. She worked as a vegetable breeder in AICRP – Vegetable crops for 8 years and bagged the best AICRP centre in 2019.  She is also the recipient of Scientist of  Excellence award in recognition of  her meritorious contribution in the field of cucurbit breeding and certificate of award in the ‘Doubling the Farmers’ income scheme from TNAU.

She had also worked in the DST, DBT, RKVY and NASF projects on cucurbits and brought out appreciable results.  She is also the recipient of ICAR HRD – fellowship for persuing short term training at the North Carolina State University, Raleigh, USA in molecular breeding of cucurbits. As a major and Co-advisor she has guided 12 Ph.D and 27 M.Sc students with 79 research publications.
