Farmers Feedback

Major activities of KVK have been evaluated periodically and got feedback from the beneficiaries by adopting group discussions, impact study, training effectiveness etc.

Activity 1: Integrated Farming System

·      Trainings were given to farmers about IFS and crop diversification and allied activities

·      Slatted goat rearing unit was established in NICRA project village and 30 beneficiaries were benefitted.

·     Under special programme, 10 farmers of Villupuram district were provided with IFS components to encourage them in integrated farming system.

·     Most of the farmers interested in goat and poultry farming were given advisory services regularly. During the service importance of IFS also deliverd to farmers.

·     Emphasis is being given on IFS in NICRA village

·                  Daily income of Rs. 500 was received by selling chicken eggs

·                  Assured monthly income of Rs. 4000/- was gained

·                  Expenditure on getting Farm Yard Manure from other people become nil

·                  After adopting IFS, unexpected and petty expenditure is being met from the daily an monthly income

Activity 2: Sustainable sugarcane initiatives

·         Trainings were given to the farmers on various topics viz., latest Sugarcane production technologies for augmenting the yield, Single chip bud method, Nursery preparation in SSI, Land preparation, Weed management, Irrigation management, Nutrient management, Intercropping, Pest and disease management, Harvesting technologies.

·         Under FLD programme, farmers were provided with TNAU sugarcane booster

·         The farmers were taken to farmers field to view the SSI technology adopted sugarcane cultivation. The resource farmer shared his experience and interacted with the trainees. During this exposure visit the farmers were fully exposed to SSI technology from nursery to harvest.

·         Gained knowledge and skill on SSI technologies viz., Single chip bud method, Nursery preparation in SSI, Land preparation, Weed management, Irrigation management, Nutrient management, Intercropping, Pest and disease management, Harvesting technologies.

·         Realized 15 % yield increased by applying TNAU Sugarcane booster

·         Exposure visit to SSI field and interaction with SSI farmers are an eye opener to follow the SSI technology

·         Obtained high yield by adopting SSI technology and realized SSI is highly remunerative than the conventional method

Activity 3: Insitu moisture conservation

·      Conducted training to farmers on mulching technology

·      Training were given to farmers on field preparation for fixing mulching  material.

·      Under NICRA project 350 tree saplings were planted at Kattusiviri village

·      Mulching trials were conducted in vegetable crops like Chillies, Water melon and Musk melon

·      Under NICRA project broad bed furrow method was  conducted in brinjal and bhendi.

·         Insitu moisture conservation is suitable package of practice for rainfed areas

·         Adoption of drip irrigation reduce the irrigation water and conserve the soil moisture

·         Adoption of mulching in vegetable crop arrest the weeds population

·         Increased yield and  improved produce were obtained through Insitu moisture conservation

·         Broad bed furrow method reduced 2-3 number irrigation in brinjal

Activity 4: Natural Resource Management

·     Trainings on vermicompost has been  given for the benefit of Villupuram district farmers

·      Construction of farm pond in NICRA village

·      Desilting, channel clearing & formation of baby pond in Kattusiviri lake at Villupuram

·      Planting of trees around the bund of community tank at Kattusiviry village

·         Following of vermicompost production provide self employment and application of vermicompost improve the yield in field crops

·         Water is harvested and 2.0 ha area is brought under protective irrigation in which groundnut (0.8ha), paddy (1.2 ha) was grown by giving 10 protective irrigation during rabi season and due to high seepage loss water could not be stored for longer time.

·         Desilting, channel clearing & formation of baby pond in Kattusiviri lake benefitting 175 farmers and water storage was increased from 0.74 Mcft to 11.86 Mcft.

Activity 5: Seed production

·     Trainings on seed production in paddy and pulses were given to farmers.

·     Seed day-Empowering the unemployed youth in Seed Production” was organized at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tindivanam with Seed Centre, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore with the mandate of enriching knowledge of seed production among the unemployed youth and bringing them under the seed production.

·     Training were given to farmers and extension functionaries on seed certification  and rouging operation

·     Seed production in pulses and oilseeds was encouraged through cluster FLD in pulses and oilseeds programme.

·     Through various exercises the participant farmer’s capacity and knowledge have been improved on seed production.

·         Training programmes on seed production techniques improved knowledge and skills in good quality seed production in Paddy, Pulses and Oilseeds

·         Realized more income with a tune of 48%  in seed production compare to selling as grain

·         Demand for good quality seed was reduced

·         Timely supply of good quality seed was ensured

 

Activity 6: Millet production and value addition

·     Trainings on improved  production technologies and value addition in Millets among the villupuram district farmers and farm women

·     4 sets of Processing equipments viz., Pulvarize, Flourshifter, dehusker and Dehuller were given to the Vallam, Kandamangalam, Mugaiyur and Tirunavalur block of Villupuram district

·      Motivation of SHGs in Minor millets value addition.

·         Gained knowledge and skill on improved  production technologies and value addition in Millets

·         INSIMP scheme paved a way to become an successful millet entrepreneur in Villupuram district

·         Processing equipments for Millets highly useful for processing and the processed millets fetches fair price ie, 42% increase over unprocessed grain
