Department of Horticulture

Department of Horticulture at Anbil Dharmalingam Agricultural College and Research Institute,Tiruchirappalli was established in the year 2022 and caters to the teaching, research and extension.The department offers courses on Production Technology of Fruits and Plantation crops, Fundamentals of Horticulture, Post Harvest Management and Value addition of fruits and vegetable crops, Production Technology for Vegetables and spices, Principles of Food Science and Nutrition and Fundamentals of Food technology. Organizing capacity building programme and disseminating the technologies to the Farmers, Farm women, Entrepreneurs, SHGs, FPOs,NGOs,Industrialist and Extension officials.

Vision

  • To indoctrinate the state of the importance in the field of horticulture and allied sectors for food and ecological security, livelihood opportunities and economic prosperity to the stakeholders and  to enable students to understand through research and practical knowledge.

Mission

  1. To ignite the minds of the students towards high quality research in Horticulture crops, post Harvest Technology, Innovative Product Development and Food safety.
  2. To encourage students to become as entrepreneurs in Horticulture, Nursery technology , seed production in vegetable crops and Food processing.
  3. To extend internship trainings in Food industries, Nursery units and commercial vegetable seed production company .

Mandate

  1. To impart knowledge to the Under Graduate Students on Horticultural crops, Post harvest technology, Food Processing and Value addition of Agricultural and horticultural crops.
  2. To evolve horticultural crop varieties and technologies best suited for Tiruchirappalli district.
  3. To develop technologies for value additions and post-harvest preservation of Agricultural and horticultural crops.
  4. To disseminate technologies through capacity building programmes to the stakeholders of Agri-horti, Food processing and Allied sectors.
