HOD’s Desk
The Department of Renewable Energy Engineering was established after bifurcation from the Department of Farm Machinery and Power in January 2019. It has emerged to be a major research and teaching hub in the field of Renewable Energy Engineering technologies and has contributed significantly to the academic and scientific communities under Agricultural Engineering College and Research Institute, TamilNadu Agricultural University.
The research in the department has been supported by Indian Council of Agricultural Research and Government of TamilNadu. The faculty members have also proposed projects to various funding agencies (DST, ICAR & GOT). The faculty members have deservedly received a number of awards and distinctions and our alumni have occupied leading positions in India and abroad. Currently there are 4 faculty members, technicians and other supporting staff working in the department.
The Department is facilitated with Renewable Energy Engineering Workshop and Renewable Energy Park with live models for students and visitors. The current research areas in the department include development advanced activated charcoal reactors, circulated fluidized bed gasification, compact solar dryers and high efficient bio-char reactors, etc. To keep up with the current needs, new facilities such as Fuel testing lab and Bio and thermo-chemical lab are being established in order to cater research for UG and PG students.
An industrial Associate Programme (STUDENTS READY) was launched in 2019 with the objective of facilitating interaction between the industry and the students. It enables the participating industries and the Department to make use of each other’s which strengthen towards developing a vibrant R&D culture.
With this new work environment, new facilities and the ambiance for interaction between faculties and students, this department will continue to create endless opportunities for students, innovators, teachers, researchers and more in the coming years.
