About the Department

  • To excel in academic and experimental research in Solar energy, Wind Energy, Bio-Chemical conversion and Thermo-chemical conversion of biomass, Solid Waste Management and Energy Auditing in industries are focused. 
  • The Department of Renewable Energy Engineering was established after the bifurcation of the Department of Farm Machinery and Bio-Energy in January 2019 and it is recognized by ICAR for fulfilling the vision statement. 
  • This Department is imparting knowledge on Renewable Energy Technologies to 250 B.Tech.(Agricultural Engineering) students, 40 Diploma (Agricultural Engineering) students and subsequently research guidance to the M.Tech. and Ph.D.Students of Agricultural Engineering Disciplines.
  • The Department is facilitated with Renewable Energy Engineering Workshop and Renewable Energy Park with live models for students, researchers and visitors. The workshop comprises Solar Energy Laboratory, Biochemical conversion laboratory, Thermo-chemical conversion laboratory, Biofuel laboratory in order to cater research for UG students’ projects, PG students and faculties. The department does cutting edge research in Advanced activated charcoal reactors, Circulated fluidized bed gasification, Compact solar dryers, High efficient bio-char reactors and improved metal chulha.
  • In addition to research activities, the Department adds to the quality of education by teaching several subjects covering fundamentals and advanced topics in the fields of renewable energy. The Professor J. John Gunasekar was the architect of a major change in renewable energy curriculum and reorganization of UG and PG credit courses. Over the years, the graduating students have gone to occupy key positions in education, science, industry and government institutions in India and abroad.
  • The department faculties have publications, sponsored projects and patent to their credit. In the future, the Department hopes to extend its research into newer areas like Artificial Intelligence and Robotic controls in Renewable Energy Gadgets and Precision Energy Auditing Technologies.
