The Department of SWCE was established in 2002, as one of the constituent departments of the college of Agricultural Engineering and Research Institute to offer Soil and Water Engineering courses for UG, PG and Ph.D programmes in Agricultural Engineering.

The Department has a well qualified and reputed scientist from its inception. This department has well equipped laboratories for UG and PG programme with the required instruments for testing soil moisture, properties of soil, remote sensing and strength of materials.

M.Tech and Ph.D degree programmes were started from the year 2014 in the name of Land and Water Management Engineering. Later in the year of 2017 the degree programmes were renamed as M.Tech and Ph.D in Soil and Water Conservation Engineering as per ICAR guidelines.

About sixteen students have completed M.Tech degree programme and eight research scholars have completed Ph.D degree programme from this department. Three Ph.D scholars have obtained UGC – Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship and two Ph.D scholars have obtained CSIR Fellowship for their research programme. One batch of UG students (3 number) have obtained projects from TNSCST, Govt. of Tamil Nadu.
