National Agricultural Development Programme

CARDS is the Nodal Agency for Implementation of Government of India sponsored project National Agricultural Development Programme (NADP/RKVY) in TNAU. In 2018-19 and 2019-20 projects worth 22.92 Lakhs are being implemented in TNAU under various dimensions of Agricultural Development. The broad area include popularisation of TNAU Varieties, Post harvest storage technologies, Sustainable production systems (biofertiliser production), Promoting advanced technologies (Remote sensing based crop area and yield estimation), promotion of fruits cultivation for nutritional security and Restoration of degraded lands.

Market Intelligence and Price forecasting

CARDS under TN-IAMP project generates and disseminates pre sowing price advisories to farmers to take appropriate sowing decision like choice of crop and extent of crop area. It also generates pre harvest market advisories to farmers to take appropriate selling/ storing decisions. These advisories reach 1.27 million farmers through print and electronic media. The dissemination of advisories was recognized at National level  and awarded the SKOCH Silver award and SKOCH-order of Merit award.

Policy Advocacy

CARDS and its constituent departments are actively associated with State and National organisations on policy related studies and dialogues. Recent activities in this direction include Government of Tamil Nadu Policy on Farmer Producer Organizations, Preparation of District Human Development Report of Coimbatore District, Government of Tamil Nadu Policy on Export and Import and Preparation of Perspective Plans under State Balanced Growth Fund (SBGF) for Coimbatore District.

Capacity Building Programmes

CARDS is involved in capacity building programmes to the officials of Department of Agricultural Marketing and Agribusiness, Tamil Nadu Watershed Development Agency, Department of Statistics, Govt of Tamil Nadu besides the scientists of SAUs and ICAR through various tailor-made training programmes on the latest developments in their respective fields. Besides trainings were also imparted to farmers, rural youth, farm women and CEOs and directors of Farmer Producers’ Organisations.
