Establishment

To cater the needs of the farmers of Tiruvannamalai district, the Centre of Excellence in Millets was started in October 2013 with an area of 12.16 hectares. It lies in 12.07286⁰ N latitude and longitude of 78.990441⁰ E at 163.36 m above MSL. Cultivable area of this station is 9.38 hectares. This is one of the All India Co-ordinated Research Project notified centre for small millets, extension and seed production activities of all the seven small millet crops.

The Centre of Excellence for Millets is situated in the Athiyandal village punchayat limit of Thiruvannamalai Taluk & district, at Athiyandal, 6 km away from Thiruvannamalai main Bus stand and 7 km away from Railway Station, on Thiruvannamalai – Bangalore road of National Highway 66. The soil type is Red Sandy and Clay loam with pH of 7.2 and irrigated by open and bore wells.
