Department of Horticulture has been established in Agriculture College and Research Institute, Madurai during 1966. Post graduate education in Horticulture in this department had been started during 1981 and continued upto 1992. Again it has been revived from 1997 onwards. The department of Horticulture is catering the needs of the farmers by transferring the technologies developed in Horticulture Crops, conducting intensive research on crop improvement and Crop Management aspects in different horticultural crops.

• To impart knowledge to the undergraduate and post graduate students on Horticulture.
• To develop high yielding varieties and technologies for horticultural crops.
• To disseminate the findings to the extension functionaries and farmers.
• Training on Bonsai making and Flower arrangement are being offered to students of B.Sc. (Agri.) and M.Sc. (Hort.).
