Since inception, the department has been actively involved in teaching UG and PG courses, and Research. More than 100 students have acquired post graduate degree in this Department.Novel strains of microbial inoculants for crop production ,plant nutrition, plant protection and bioconversion have been identified. This department is implemental in releasing the new strain for Silica solubilization. Having state-of-art laboratory for biofertilizer production and quality control, the department supplies various formulations of biofertilzers viz., Rhizobium, Azospirillum, Azotobacter, Gluconacetobacter diazotrophicus, phosphobacteria, PPFM, Silicate solubilizer and Mycorrhiza as well as mother cultures to the farmers and entrepreneurs.Azolla is supplied to the farmers for rice crop and for feeding livestock and poultry. Recently biofertilizers production facilities are strengthened through State and Central Government funding.
