Rice is the staple food for Asian people and it the life for farmers of erstwhile Thanjavur District called as granary of Tamil Nadu. Rice is cultivated in an area of 11 lakh ha in Cauvery Delta Districts. The Intensive Agricultural District Programme was operated in the district considering its importance of rice cultivation. The long felt dream of establishing an Agricultural College in Thanjavur District became true in 2014 when the Agricultural College and Research Institute was sanctioned and established at Eachangkottai in Thanjavur district. This college is currently attracting students not only from Cauvery delta districts but from through out Tamil Nadu. This college will certainly serve the farmers of Cauvery Delta districts through identification of location specific technologies for rice and based crops in future apart from providing agricultural education to the students.
