About ODL
The Directorate of Open and Distance Learning was established during April 2005, a pioneering attempt among the State Agricultural Universities (SAUs) with a prime objective of imparting technical knowhow and do how on agro technologies and agro based industries to various segments of learners who lack opportunity in campus based education. This Directorate concentrates its effort on Distance Education in addition to non-formal and continuing education.
Skill oriented certificate programmes in various subjects, Diploma programme in Agri Inputs and PG Diploma programmes are offered through Distance Learning Mode for those aspiring for knowledge updating, self employment and entrepreneurship development. The primary target groups are farmers, employees of Government /Private sectors, field service providers from local communities, unemployed youth, entrepreneurs, NGO’s and school dropouts.
Genesis
The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), Coimbatore Tamil Nadu, India, a century years old renowned institution committed for the development of agricultural education. In commemoration of the Centenary year of the Agricultural College and Research Institute, Coimbatore, during 2005 Open and Distance Learning programmes which is first of its kind in India among State Agricultural Universities were started.
