1.4.7. Gr. Horticulture Evaluation of coloured table varieties

Dr. A. Subbiah

Asst. Professor (Hort.)

With regard to vine growth characters evaluated among the six coloured table grapes varieties, the grapes var. Fantasy Seedless recorded the highest values for vine growth characters viz., leaf length (12.24 cm), leaf width (13.65 cm), leaf area (131.95 cm 2 ), petiole length (7.92 cm) and internodal length (5.95 cm) respectively. The highest cane thickness (3.23 cm) was observed in grapes var. Crimson Seedless. The lowest values for vine growth characters viz., leaf length (10.72 cm), leaf width (11.98 cm) and leaf area (101.29 cm2) were registered in grape var. Red Globe.

Among the six coloured table grape varieties evaluated, the highest values in terms of number of bunches (31.45 vine-1) and fruit yield (7.17 kg vine-1) were recorded in clone A-18/3 followed by Red Globe with the fruit yield of 5.28 kg per vine. The highest bunch weight of 435.93 g was also registered in Red Globe. In terms of fruit quality characters the grapes var. Fantasy Seedless registered the highest TSS of 20.640Brix and lowest acidity of 0.52 per cent.

1.4.8. Gr. Horticulture Evaluation of raisin varieties

Dr. A. Subbiah

Asst. Professor (Hort.)

Among the four raisin varieties evaluated, the grapes var. Thompson Seedless (V4) recorded the highest values for leaf length (11.86 cm), leaf width (14.66 cm), leaf area (169.32 cm2), number of matured canes (48.53), petiole length (7.82 cm) and intermodal length (5.40 cm) and the highest shoot length (52.55 cm) and cane thickness (3.27 cm) was observed in Kishmish Rozavis White (V3).

Among the raisin varieties evaluated for yield characters, the highest number of bunches per vine (19.51), bunch weight (295.32 g) and fruit yield (16.11 kg vine-1) was registered in grapes var. Thompson Seedless (V4). In respect of quality characters, the grapes var. Merbein Seedless (V1) registered the highest TSS (22.730Brix) with the lowest acidity (0.50%) and raisin recovery (23.72%). The highest acidity was recorded in the grapes var. 2A Clone.

1.4.9. Gr. Horticulture Evaluation of juice varieties

Dr. A. Subbiah

Asst. Professor (Hort.)

Fruit pruning was carried out on 08.11.2018. Observations on vine growth, yield and quality parameters were recorded.

Among the juice varieties evaluated, the highest values for leaf length (12.19 cm), cane thickness (1.91 cm) and internodal length (5.99 cm) were recorded in the variety V5 (Bangalore Blue). The grape variety Punjab MACS Purple (V3) recorded the highest values for growth characters viz., leaf width (13.47cm) and leaf area (154.05 cm2).

In respect of yield characters, the highest number of bunches (48.30 vine-1) was recorded in Punjab MACS Purple (V3). Whereas the individual bunch weight (398.19 g) and fruit yield (12.40 kg vine-1) were registered in grapes hybrid Manjari Medika (V1). The number of bunches per vine (19.62), bunch weight (123.32 g) and juice recovery (52.15%) were low in V5 (Bangalore Blue). In respect of quality characters, the highest TSS (20.060Brix), juice recovery (59.68%) and the lowest acidity (0.55%) were recorded in Punjab MACS Purple (V3).

Horticulture

Evaluation of commercial grapes varieties on

different rootstocks

Dr. A. Subbiah

Asst. Professor (Hort.)

Planting of 1103 P, 110R, SO4 and Dogridge rootstocks have been done under the ‘’Y’’ trellis training system. In situ grafting was carried out during November, 2018. The grapes varieties viz., Thompson Seedless and Muscat Hamburg were evaluated for vine growth characters. The results revealed that the grapes var. Muscat Hamburg grafted on rootstock 1103 Paulson (V2R1) recorded the highest leaf length (12.68 cm), leaf width (13.85 cm) and leaf area (175.79 cm2). The highest petiole length (6.30 cm) was registered in grapes var. Thompson Seedless grafted on rootstock SO4 (V2 R3). The maximum intermodal length (5.98 cm) was recorded in grapes var. Muscat Hamburg grafted on rootstock 110R (V2 R2). The trunk girth was found to be the highest (3.78 cm) in grapes var. Thompson Seedless grafted on rootstock 1103 Paulson (V2 R1).
4.4.1. Gr. Horticulture Assessment of post harvest losses in grapes

Dr. A. Subbiah

Asst. Professor (Hort.)

The data on field level postharvest losses were recorded during the harvesting season from September – 2018 to January, 2019. Further the postharvest losses occur during transportation and at market level were assessed at local retailing points in and around Cumbum and Theni.

The results indicated that the postharvest loss was higher in Thompson Seedless (33.50 %) as compared to Sharad Seedless (27.50 %).

Plant Pathology

Validation of online interactive weather information based disease and insect

pest risk assessment

Dr. A. Manonmani

Asst. Professor (Plant Pathology)

Dr. A. Subbiah

Asst. Professor (Hort.)

The disease incidence of downy mildew was recorded from 0.36 to 2.95 per cent in the advisory plot after the foundation pruning, whereas it was ranged from 1.23 to 11.40 per cent in the farmers’ practice plot. The powdery mildew disease incidence 4.78 to 10.21 per cent was registered from in advisory plot, while in the farmers’ practice plot it was ranged from 8.75 to 23.64 per cent.

During the fruit pruning season, the downy mildew disease incidence was low and varied from 0.56 to 2.03 per cent in the plot adopting online advisory system, while it was ranged between 1.55 and 8.92 per cent in control plot. In respect of powdery mildew disease incidence it was registered in the range of 2.32 to 14.96 per cent in vineyard – II adopting online advisory system compared to farmers’ practices plot, wherein it was in the range of 2.87 to 25.64 per cent.
