Genesis
The Department of Agricultural Economics started functioning as an independent Department in 1972 to teach Agricultural Economics to the students of B.Sc(Ag) programme. Post graduate programme in the discipline was initiated during 1977. The staff of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Sciences were attached to this Department during 2006.
Mandate
- To impart quality education and research in the sphere of Agricultural Economics to cater the policy needs of the state.
- To conduct research on current socio and economic problems with respect to agriculture and allied sectors in Tamil Nadu for the benefit of the stake holders.
- To facilitate the farming community with consultancy services, trainings, exhibition, etc., for economic upliftment
- To widen and encourage the entrepreneurship skills among students through hands-on training and field exposure visits.
