Dr.S.Amutha, Ph.D.,
Professor and Head
Dr.S.Amutha, Dean In-Charge, Community Science College and Research Institute, has 30 years of professional experience. Her research focus is on value addition, functional foods, nutraceuticals, antioxidants and Community Nutrition. She has guided 16 Ph.D. and 19 M.Sc. students with commendable research findings. She has motivated her students to pursue scholarship and three of her Ph.D. students have received fellowships notable being BIRAC Innovation Fellowship and Bursary award. She has published twelve books and 38 research articles. She has participated in many conferences and seminars and has presented many scientific papers and had bagged two awards for best poster and one for best oral presentation. She is a recipient of Best Teacher Award and also Best PG teacher award during 2012. She has received research funds to a tune of Rs. 2.45 crores from six research projects from BIRAC – DBT Research Grand Challenges of India, NMPB, ASPEE, and Coconut Development Board. She has served as ICAR project Co-ordinator for Tribal area upliftment programme in Nilgiri’s district. She also served the institute in different spheres like Academic Council member, Chairman / Member in Board of studies, Member in Research Council, Staff Advisor, and Editorial Board Member in journal of MASU, Member Library Committee, ODL coordinator, Member Anti ragging committee and Hostel Management committee. She served as peer review committee member for DST projects and National Journals. She has worked as External Experts for All India Entrance Examination, SAU and other Universities.
Contribution towards Welfare and Development of Organization
- Instituted an Endowment Award (Photocopy enclosed) in the name of Professor S. Sundararajan and Family award for Ph.D foods Nutrition securing OGPA more than 9.0. And as group efforts with our College Fellow Scientists instituted awards for UG Students.
- Team participant for ICAR-PRT Visit to our college for Accreditation on June 2016. Renovation of building, labs of Departments and College and Purchase and installation of new processing equipments, analytical equipment and farmer friendly ergonomic tools.
- A part of Green Initiatives garden was created in the premises of Community Science College and Research Institute, Madurai. Team leader for Accreditation report preparation, presentation and arrangements in view of ICAR-PRT Visit on August 2018 to our college. Instrumental for letters to ICAR for inclusion of B.Sc (FND) from 2019 onwards for AIEE. and also letters sent for job opportunities in FSSAI departments by approaching Principal Secretary, Tamil Nadu and also Central Government officials, FSSAI, New Delhi.
Capital Works
- Construction of first floor in AICRP Building including repair and maintenance of training centre at CSC & RI, Madurai.
- Repair and maintenance of the AICRP Resource Centre – Food Science and Nutrition, Human Development and Family Studies, Family Resource Management and Consumer Science Components of Community Science College and Research Institute, Madurai.
- Initiated and approached for approval of new vehicle and allotted to Community Science College and Research Institute, Madurai.
