Establishment
With a view to cater the needs of grape growers in Theni and Dindigul districts and other grape growing regions of Tamil Nadu, the Grapes Research Station was established under the aegis of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University with a total land area of 28.48 acres. The station is situated in the Shanmuganathy dam road of Rayappanpatty village in the Cumbum Valley of Theni district. The land area comes under the limit of Anaimalayanpatty @ Mallingapuram revenue village. The geographical location of the Grapes Research Station lies in 90 45’ 26.685’’N latitude and longitude of 770 20’ 58.737’’E at an altitude of 435.05 m above MSL. This is the only station in the entire state engaged in research, extension, mass multiplication and distribution of grape planting materials.
