Agronomy Field Lab

Agronomy field laboratory is equipped with high podium along with LCD and Mic for the benefit of students. There are 21 work tables and 82 stools and can accommodate 80 students at a time.

Seeds, fertilizers, manures and chemicals are collected and exhibited for identification by students.

Experiments like seed germination tests, seed treatment with biofertilizers, fungicides, acid delinting in cotton etc., are being done by students in this lab.

Farm Unit

The Farm consists of Old farm and New farm with land area of 112.77 acres (Old Area – 50.93 acres + New area – 61.84 acres). In old farm cultivable area is 9.71 acres (Wetland – 2.00 acres, Gardenland – 4.71 acres and Dryland – 3.00 acres). The new farm is 61.84 acre land acquired from the AEC&RI, Kumulur to demonstrate different agro techniques for various field crops and horticultural crops for the Diploma Agricultural students.

Irrigation facility

  • Four bore wells are available, two are used for boys & girls hostel. One for office and class rooms, one for irrigation purpose to students plot cultivation, Shade net, Polyhouse, etc.,
  • Integrated water supply will be used for irrigation during Rabi – Rice crop, depending upon the water availability in the canals.

Crop cafeteria

For identifying different crops even during the off seasons exclusive crop cafeteria with more than thirty species of crops under cereals, millets, pulses, oilseeds, fibre crops, sugar crop, narcotics, fodder and forage crops are being maintained throughout the year

Nursery unit

Forest tree seedlings and Palmyarah seedling are being raised within the farm and planted inside the farm in vacant spaces. Hands on training in nursery preparation are also being done in horticulture unit.

Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry Lab

  • Capacity: 80 students at a time
  • Courses handled for diploma in agriculture, Undergraduate for Agrl. Engineering students
  • Soil Testing can be performed for physical and chemical properties of soil
  • Water Testing can be performed for assessing its quality for irrigation
  • Research scholars are permitted for doing analysis for their research works

  • Environmental Science laboratory work can also be performed

Horticulture Lab

  • Horticulture laboratory well furnished with 12 numbers of work table with a seating capacity of 65 numbers.
  • LCD projectors are fixed for elaborating the lectures in practical class
  • Varietal display boards for different fruit crops, vegetable crops, medicinal crops, flower crops, and ornamental plants were fixed in laboratory for students’ identification

Green houses

  • Growing of Sirukeerai, Ash gourds and raising portrays in green houses

Poly houses

  • Cultivation of hybrid Bhendi in polyhouse

Entomology Lab

  • Entomology lab can accommodate 80 students in one sitting
  • Digitalized smart class room is used for students teaching
  • Well documented collection of major insect pests
  • Beneficial insects and their products were in display (Honeybee, Silkworm and Lac culture)
  • Apiary is a component of Entomology, IoA, Kumulur
  • Honeybee colonies were maintained and trainings were impart to the students
  • Mini Bio control Unit is in Trichogramma chilonis production
  • A new sericulture Unit is in blossom condition
  • It is well equipped with all kinds of instruments necessary for Diploma courses
  • Regular hands-on training on various entomological gadgets were given to students as curriculum
  • Field visits and exposure visits were conducted for good practical knowledge of our students

Honey bees Unit

  • Hands- on trainings were given in Apiculture, Low cost production of Bio-control agents

Sericulture Unit

  • Separate sericulture unit is under progress for the extensive exposure of students and planting of Mulberry trees done by students

Pathology Lab

  • Plant pathology laboratory was established with a cost of Rs. 25,62,000 by utilizing the FMC fund for the year 2017 -18 for conducting practical classes and experiential learning of students
  • The laboratory is equipped with Diagnostic laboratory microscope, weighing digital balance, 100 Student compound microscope, Hot Air oven, Laminar Air flow chamber, Bench top Centrifuge, Autoclave and fitted LCD projector with screen with capacity of 85 students occupying for taking practical classes.

Mushroom Unit

  • Mushroom production unit was established for conducting practical classes for the course of CAG A22.Commercial production of spawn and mushroom (0+2) and develop the entrepreneurship of students.
  • Mushroom shed 300 sqft @Rs. 1.75lakh was constructed at the capacity of 250 bags arranged under roping /hanging system.

Bio Control agents Production Unit

  • For conducting commercial agriculture course on CAG A21.Commercial production of biocontrol agents (0+2) of Pseudomonas and Trichoderma, commercial biocontrol unit was established.
  • For establishing the mass production unit, the equipment viz., laminar air flow chamber, autoclave (12″diax12″depth), digital weighing balance (accuracy 1gto10kg) (600 x 600 x 600 mm), Fermenters, Talc mixer (Spiral Kneader) and band sealing machine were purchased @Rs. 8,45,000/- under FMC fund -2017 -18.
  • Sandwich board for labs (36”x24”) and (12”x18”) to display the mass production technology of Pseudomonas fluorescens and Trichoderma viride were prepared and displayed in biocontrol unit.

Biofertilizer Production Unit

  • In this lab basic microbiological analysis (Isolation, Screening and Enumeration) is being done and has equipment like Microscopes, Laminar air flow chamber, Autoclave, Incubator, Hot air oven, Rotary shaker, Refrigerator, pH meter, EC Meter, Centrifuge and other necessary materials
  • Biofertilizer Production like Azospirillum, Rhizobium and Phosphobacteria are being done and has equipment like Fermenter (100 lit production capacity), Deep freezer (-20°C) andother necessary materials

Seed Science and Technology Lab

  • A well-furnished seed technology lab is established with the following equipments, namelyMoisture meter, Germinator, Purity work board, Different seed sampling triers, Seed sampling dividers, Seed samples of different crops along with posters and flex charts

Plant Breeding lab

In this lab basic plant breeding techniques (floral dissection,mutation treatment, male sterility, emasculation techniques) are being done and has equipment like Students Microscopes, Sterozoom microscope with camera, Cooling Centrifuge,Autoclave,Deep freezer, Incubator, Hot air oven, Rotary shaker, Refrigerator, pH meter, EC Meter and other necessary materials.

Azolla Demo Unit

  • Multiple species of Azolla are collected and maintained for students identification

Seed production of Paddy and Black gram are being initiated.

A fully furnished examination hall which can accommodate 150 students at a time along with smart boards for instructions is available
