The Institute of Agriculture, Kumulur established in 2016 in Agricultural College and Research Institute, Kumulur Campus Lalgudi Taluk, Tiruchirappalli district. The entire Diploma in Agriculture programme offered in different Institutes of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University has been shifted to Institute of Agriculture, Kumulur Lalgudi Taluk with English as the medium of instruction. The mandate is to offer two years Diploma in Agriculture programme. Well qualified faculty members; Semester system of Education; Well-equipped lecture halls with AV facilities; Uninterrupted WiFi connectivity. Well equipped laboratories with required equipments and facilities for Agronomy, Soil science, Entomology, Plant Pathology Plant Breeding and Genetics, Microbiology and additional laboratories for Biocontrol unit, Mushroom unit, Biofertilizer unit and Vermicompost unit are available for the effective hands on learning for the students. Students are taken to other Agricultural colleges, Research Institutes and Agro Industries etc., on exposure visit gives them to understand and gain more knowledge on agriculture. The college farm with a total area of 112.37 acres with 820 mm mean annual rainfall is used for conducting research, field demonstrations and students experimental plots. Separate Agronomy field laboratory, farm office, poly house, shade net house, and mist chambers are constructed for effective field level teaching and imparting farm level activities to the students.
The students’ hostel has Separate lodging arrangements for boys and girls. Spacious rooms fitted with modern and necessary amenities; RO drinking water supply with hot water facilities; Well equipped kitchen with dining hall; 24 hour power back up for uninterrupted study; Each floor decked with well maintained and clean washrooms and restrooms; Common rooms with facilities for general entertainment like Television, news papers and an assortment of magazines for leisure and scholarly purposes; Enclosed recreational engagements like chess, carrom etc; Dedicated and accommodating hostel staff, watchful security personnel and surveillance cameras to ensure student safety and well being; Canteen facilities for the students; Six Station Multi Gym at Hostel were the facilities available.
The Play ground facilities are available to infuse and develop sports capacities among students. Cultural activities are an integral part of our Institute’s culture. The Institute has a rich set of cultural activities in the form of artistic performances like dance, plays, singing and more by the students in all Institute’s Functions. A separate placement cell is formed and functioning effectively for placing the students in a better position. Cent per cent placement was achieved in every academic year. Personality development programmes and yoga classes are regularly conducted to mould the discipline and to improve the physique of the students.
Thus the Institute is functioning effectively and efficiently under Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, since 2016.
