Objectives

  • To develop, evaluate and introduce high yielding varieties of rice and black gram suitable for CNDZ.
  • To develop production and protection technologies for the major crops of CNDZ.
  • To formulate optimum water management technologies suitable for the major cropping regions of CNDZ.
  • To develop alternate cropping system for CNDZ.
  • To produce breeder and TNAU labelled seeds of rice, pulses and oilseeds.
  • To popularize the new crop varieties and technologies.

To cater the technological needs of extension functionaries and farmers.

Vision

  • To develop feasible alternate cropping system for CNDZ.
  • To develop, evaluate and introduce high yielding varieties of rice and black gram suitable for CNDZ.
  • To develop production and protection technologies for the major crops of CNDZ.

Mission

Agriculture in CDZ depends on the release of water from Mettur Dam. Since the water was not released in time in most of the years, ground water has been used for rice cultivation in kuruvai, summer and resulted in depletion of ground water. Labour and water scarcity are the major constraints.

Hence research on the following technologies to be strengthened for popularization.

  • Water saving technologies
  • Alternate cropping system
  • Ground water recharge
  • Soil fertility management
  • Mechanization
  • Drought tolerant short duration varieties
  • Micro irrigation & Sensor based irrigation.
