About Krishi Vigyan Kendra
The Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tiruvallur was started during the year 2004-2005 under X five year plan. The KVK was inaugurated on 4th September 2004 by Dr.P.S.Hansra, Assistant Director General (Extension), ICAR, New Delhi with 100 % financial assistance. The Main role of this Kendra is testing and transfer of Agricultural technologies to bridge the gap between the production and productivity and to increase self employment opportunities among the rural communities. The qualitative improvement in the working of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra was envisaged through the mandate as technology assessment, refinement and demonstration of technology products in accordance with the XI Plan objectives.
KVK is situated 1.5 km away from south of Sevvapettai road railway station on the Chennai-Arakkonam broad gauge line and 35 km away from Chennai. Tiruvallur district lies in Northern latitude and Eastern longitude. It is situated at an altitude of 39.47 m MSL. Annual rain fall of the district is 1287 mm. Mean maximum and minimum temperatures are 32.9º and 23.3º C respectively. Relative humidity ranged from 53 % to 86%.
KVK is funded by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi and functioning under the Directorate of Extension Education, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore. It operates in view of disseminating the newly released varieties, implements and technologies released by the University to the farmers by conducting OFTs’, FLDs’ and by imparting trainings to the farming community.
