ABOUT DEPARTMENT
Genesis
The Department of Extension Education and Communication Management, started as a separate discipline in Community Science College and Research Institute, Madurai during the year 2002 which involved in teaching, research and extension function of the University . In this department, Entrepreneurship Development Centre is established during 2013. It facilitates students learning and providing training programmes for various group of farmers viz., SHGs, ATMA Groups ,Commodity Group of Farmers , Farmers Producers organizations and various interest groups in the society.
Mandate
- To impart education to under graduate students of B.Sc (Hons) FSN and PG students of Food Science and Nutrition.
- To undertake socio-economic research on farmers household, rural people, women, youth and the living status with special emphasis in nutritional aspects.
- To organize and co-ordinate various capacity building training on primary and secondary processing of various agricultural commodities through Entrepreneur development Centre and VCS.
- To strengthen the farmers / Farm women – scientist linkage in collaboration with the State Department of Agriculture, NGO and various schemes.
Mission
To impart skills on value addition of ,agricultural, horticultural produce and nutritional security agriculture aspects to extension professionals and farmers and farm women and all stockholder in farming.
Vision
To enhance the Socio-economic conditions farmers and other rural people and to achieve food and household nutritional security.
