Crop Management

  • Press mud application @ 25 t/ha increases cane and sugar yield.
  • Basal application of phosphobacteria @ 10 kg/ha along with 50 kg of decomposed FYM ensures ample supply of phosphorus by solublizing the fixed phosphorus and resulted with better crop growth.
  • Basal application of Acetobacter @ 10 kg /ha along with 50 kg of decomposed FYM enhances crop growth and yield besides saving of 25 per cent of fertilizer nitrogen.
  • Pre-emergence application of Atrazine @ 1.0 kg a.i./ha, followed by hand weeding on 45th day is effective and economical methodology of weed control.
  • 2, 4-D sodium salt as post emergence directed spray on weeds @ 0.2%  (2 g /l) controls the creeper weeds economically and effectively.
  • Intercropping with black gram and other pulses increases net income in addition to improvement of soil fertility.
  • Growing green manures like sunhemp and daincha as intercrops in sugarcane adds nitrogen to the soil and increases cane yield by 10-15 t/ha.
  • Drip irrigation in paired row system of planting (25 x 25 x 25 x 120 cm) and pit method of planting (4444 pits/ha) reduces half of the water requirement, controls weeds, increases fertilizer use efficiency, cane and sugar yield.
  • Planting of sugarcane through mechanical cutter cum planter saves cultivation cost up to Rs.2500 / ha.
  • Application of 300 kg N, 100 kg P2O5 and 200 kg K2O per hectare is recommended for one hectare of sugarcane crop. While the entire dose of Phosphorus needs to be applied as basal dose at planting and N and K need to be applied in three equal splits on 30th, 60th  and 90th day after planting in heavy soils (clayey soils) and in four equal splits on 30th, 60th, 90th and 120th day after planting in light textured (sandy) soils.
  • Basal application of 20 kg Ferrous sulphate, 10 kg Manganese sulphate, 10 kg Zinc sulphate and 5 kg Borax mixed with 500 kg of compost per hectare is recommended to overcome micronutrients deficiencies in sugarcane.
  • Mulching the ridges with cane trash on 7th month along with kaolin spray @ 2 per cent on 120 days helps in overcoming the drought and ensures higher cane yield.
  • Foliar spray with 2.5 % urea and potassium chloride each at 60 and 90 days after planting of sugarcane crops to withstand under drought condition.
