On the formation of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University in 1971, College of Agricultural Engineering offering B.E. (Agriculture) programme was formed in 1972. The college had the department of Soil and Water Conservation Engineering, Agricultural Structures, Farm Machinery and Power and Agricultural Process Engineering. After the first batch passed out in 1977, M.E. (Ag) programmes with specialization in Soil and Water Conservation Engineering, Farm Machinery and Power and Agricultural Process Engineering were started in 1978. Department of Bio energy was introduced in 1987 to concentrate on the research related to the use of solar energy, wind energy and bio gas in Agriculture and M.E (Ag) in bio energy was also started. In 1989, the Ph.D (Agrl Engineering) programmes with specialization in Soil and Water Conservation Engineering, Farm Machinery and Power and Agricultural Process Engineering and Bio Energy were started.

The B.E. (Ag) Programme was shifted to CAE, Kumulur in the year 1992 vide G.O.M.S. No. 581 dt. 21.09.1992. In the Year 2002 B.E. (Ag) Programme was renamed as B.Tech. (Agrl.Engg.) Programme.

In 2014, the M. Tech. and Ph.D programmes in Soil and Water Conservation Engineering and Farm Machinery and Power were shifted from AEC & RI, Coimbatore to AEC & RI, Kumulur.

B.Tech. (Agrl.Engg.) Programme is 101

  1. Tech. and Ph.D programmes in Soil and Water Conservation Engineering is 5 each
  2. Tech. and Ph.D programmes in Farm Machinery and Power Engineering are 5 each.

 

Board of Studies for Agricultural Engineering

The Board of Studies for Agricultural Engineering is conducted periodically for syllabus revision and to discuss issues related to academic activities. The composition of the BoS (Agricultural Engineering) comprises elected as well as nominated members and outside experts as per the university norms.

Staff meetings are conducted at the time of syllabus revision and inclusion of new portions and courses were discussed and proposed for placing in BoS.
