The Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding is functioning under the Directorate of CPBG from 01.06.2019 to coordinate the education related activities.This department offering undergraduate courses related to Genetics and Plant Breeding for B.Sc.(Hon.) Agriculture, B.Tech. (Biotech.), B.Tech (Bioinfo), B.Sc.(Hons.) Horticulture and B.S.(ABM) degree programme and P.G and Ph.D. degree programs.Guiding students for taking post graduate research in Rice, Millets, Pulses, Cotton, Oilseeds, Forages, Sugarcane and Plant Genetic Resources. The age old and very rare herbarium collections are being maintained by this department. Endowed with recognized mentors (guides) for M.Sc.(Ag.) and Ph.D. thesis / research work. It facilitates for carrying out post graduate students research work with the collaboration of ICAR institutes viz., ICAR-Sugarcane Breeding Institute, Coimbatore, ICAR-Wheat Research Station, Wellington, The Nilgiris district, International Crops Research Institute for the Semi Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), Hyderabad, Telengana, National Institute of Plant Genome Research, New Delhi.
