Postgraduate study in TNAU is a very special experience. The courses are offered in the university campus and in its constituent colleges. The students on completion of the course requirements can take up their research in any institute / industry in India. 1933-34

Post Graduate Education started when the Agricultural College, Coimbatore was recognized as a Centre for Masters and Doctoral Degree Programme.

1958

Regional Post-Graduate Center was established to offer programs leading to Master’s degree in Agriculture & Horticulture.

1960

Doctoral program in Agriculture was started.

1965

Third Agricultural College was started at Madurai, Tamil Nadu and the Master’s program at Madurai was introduced during 1969.

1971

Tamil Nadu Agricultural University came into existence with Coimbatore as its Head Quarters.

1972

A separate Faculty of Horticulture was established, and College of Agricultural Engineering was established at Coimbatore.

1973

Doctoral program was introduced in Horticultural College and Research Institute, Coimbatore.

1975

Faculty of Post Graduate Education was established in TNAU, Coimbatore and master’s and Doctoral (1978) programs were started in Environmental Sciences and Biotechnology.

1977

Masters and Doctoral programs in Agricultural Engineering were introduced.

1981

Master’s program was introduced in Home Science College & Research Institute, Madurai and Doctoral program in 1988.

1989

Doctoral program in Agriculture was introduced in Agricultural college & Research Institute, Madurai; Master’s program introduced in Forest College & Research Institute, Mettupalayam and Horticultural College & Research Institute, Periyakulam.

1990

Master’s program in Agriculture was introduced in Agricultural College & Research Institute, Killikulam, Thoothukudi district, Tamil Nadu, and Doctoral program in Forest College & Research Institute, Mettupalayam.

2011

 M.Tech. (Ag.) in Nanotechnology and M.Tech. in Environmental Engineering was introduced.

2012

Master’s program introduced in Plant Genetic Resource and Remote Sensing.

2017

Introduced Ph.D. in Nano Science and Technology

2019

Re-Introduced Semester System of Education in Post Graduate Education

2019

Granted Affiliation to M. Tech (Food Safety and Quality Assurance) and Ph.D. (Food Science & Technology) offered by IIFPT, Thanjavur/ NIFTEM Thanjavur.

Introduced M.Sc. (Forestry) in Forest Products and Utilization at FC & RI, Mettupalayam

Re-introduced M.Tech. (Agrl. Engg.) and Ph.D. (Agrl. Engg.) programmes in Soil and Water Conservation Engineering and Farm Machinery and Power Engineering at AEC & RI, Coimbatore Campus
