The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) had its genesis from establishment of an Agricultural School at Saidapet, Madras, Tamil Nadu, as early as 1868 and it was later relocated at Coimbatore.
The NCC Unit of Agricultural College & Research Institute of TNAU, Coimbatore, consists of 104 cadets, comprising of first, second and third year NCC cadets in various degree programs. 52 boys are present under 4 Tamil Nadu Battalion NCC and 52 girls are under 5 Tamil Nadu Battalion NCC, Coimbatore coming under Kovai NCC Group Head Quarters at Singanallur, Coimbatore. The NCC unit of 4 TNBN was started in the year 1958. The 5TNBN NCC unit was started in the year 2004. The NCC cadets are having stipulated training activities, social service activities in each year at institute level and also they are attending various camps at state and national level. They also attend university functions like independence day functions and republic day celebrations, Guard of honour to the Excellency of the Governor of Tamilnadu etc. The NCC day was celebrated on 4th Sunday of November, 2022 by performing various activities like cycle rally regarding climate change, cleanliness drive and also cleaning NCC parade ground. The activities of 5TN (Girls) BN NCC are guided by Major. (Dr.) S. Manonmani and the activities of 4TN BN NCC are looked after by Lt. (Dr.) Patil Santosh Ganapati.
