Dr. M. Kalyanasundaram began his career in TNAU as an Assistant Professor during 1986 and became the 18th Dean of Agriculture College and Research Institute in the year 2019. He was conferred with Life Time Achievement award (2020) in March 2020 by Entomological Society of India, New Delhi.
As an undergraduate teacher for more than 34 years and a post graduate teacher for the last 20 Years did the best of his ability for the students community. His own academic excellence combined with his aptitude for teaching has motivated many a students to become young faculties in TNAU, ARS, National laboratories responsible officers in several organizations etc.,
He was one among the faculty member responsible for the achievement of securing 80 ICAR Junior merit fellowships from TNAU. Seven students secured coveted national first ranks also.
Students awarded the highest scores in students feed back evaluation for his teaching. He was adjudged as best teacher and received Best Teacher Award from TNAU during the year 2004.
He has written Seven textbooks and fifteen practical manuals in Agricultural Entomology to enrich U.G and P.G teaching. My book on “Biological Control for Sustainable Agriculture” written in Tamil was adjudged as the best book Award for the year 2008 by Tamil Nadu Government and received best writer award from the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
He has published 27 Research Papers in international journals, 41 Research Papers in National Journals and 23 other Popular Articles in various NAAS rated journals.
As NSS Programme Officer for two years, he conducted special camps, in the villages and motivated the students.
As a deputy warden for two years he helped the administration and inspired, guided, the students and to maintain discipline in the campus.
As Professor and Head at AC&RI, Madurai, involved very actively for the enrichment and resource building of better laboratory and classroom facilities, equipments, teaching aids to the department of agricultural entomology under the ICAR development grants AHRDP, and NADP programmes.
He served as editor for the College magazine endeavor for 2 years Dramatic Secretary Staff Associate for 5 years and Staff Associate Planning and monitoring forum for 2 years.
Served as Member University board of studies for 3 years and helped for syllabus revision of 1999. Operated several Private funded Schemes for the last fifteen years.
Served as Farm Manager for 3 years at Horticultural Research Station, Thadiyankudisai from 1986-1989 and improved the station without availing even a single day leave.
Involved himself for the invention of Corcyra moths scale separation gadget under pilot plant production of Trichogramma project. Our University as Pongal gift released the gadget in the year 1992.
Two of his findings were included in the crop production manual released by the Department of Agriculture, and University Jointly. He was instrumental to setup Four commercial bio control laboratories setup by unemployed Postgraduate students of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University.
Involved himself for large-scale field demonstrations carried out in eight major crops covering ten districts of Tamil Nadu at an area of 1065.80 ha to prove the efficacy of bio control agents on farmers holdings.
Received recognition certificate from the Vice-Chancellor of TNAU for his outstanding contribution in Papaya Mealybug control through large scale release of the parasitoid which has resulted in massive reduction in pesticide usage on crops infested by papaya mealybug during the year 2010-2012.
Developed e-contents for the B.Sc.(Hort.) course as a leader for online as well as offline delivery under the NAIP project which is still receiving an overwhelming response from students.
Visited Singapore, Australia, Philippines and Thailand for Agriculture related conferences.
