Prelude

B. Tech. (Agricultural Information Technology) degree programme is being offered by Agricultural Engineering College and Research Institute, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, first of its kind in the country since 2007. The students learn all the fundamentals of information technology like any other general information technology course and go on to specialize exclusively on application of information technology to agricultural issues. The course has provided technical dexterity to the students through laboratories of high infrastructure and empiricist faculties. This course is first of its kind in the nation and is a four year full time programme laid out in eight semesters in strategic sequence.

The B. Tech. (Agricultural Information Technology) graduates find placement in various organizations in roles such as IT service facility manager, weather forecasting expert, commodity trader, farm plantation manager, supply chain manager, crop insurance manager, knowledge management expert, landscape designer, system analyst, and IT project officers in agro-based industries; RS&GIS analysts in geoinformatics industries; e-learning specialists, programmers in the IT industry, and mid-managerial positions in the banking sector.

The B.Tech. (Agricultural Information Technology) degree program is a composite of agricultural sciences, engineering, computer science, and information technology, which provides a platform for a spectrum of higher education opportunities for students. Many B.Tech (AIT) students have pursued their master’s and doctoral degrees from various reputable educational institutes in India and abroad.
