Prelude

Scientists seek to answer questions using rigorous methods and careful observations. These observations collected from field records, survey and experiments are the backbone of a statistical investigation and are called data. Statistics is the study of how best to collect, analyze and draw conclusions from data related to any Research. After Post Graduation, a student shall acquire in-depth knowledge in subject and expertise in Statistical Data Analytical skills which will help them in teaching and research.

Master’s in Agricultural Extension course

Master’s Course
After admission the students undergo a set of courses that help them understand the basics of Statistics as per the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) with a total credit load of 55 credits, of which 20 credits are exclusively earmarked for their Thesis Research.


Master’s thesis research

After completing the courses in the first year, the students start their thesis research. Each student is assigned to an experienced faculty as a Chairman, approved by the Dean of School of Post-Graduate Studies, who would guide the student on his/ her choice of research topic. The students are also exposed to several scientific events like Symposia, Seminar and Conferences.

Student Experiences

Myself, Mr.Mano Bharathi S., pursuing M.Sc. (Agri.) in Agricultural Statistics in Department of Physical Sciences and Information Technology, AEC &RI, TNAU. I got interest in Statistics, since it has a wide scope on Data Analysis and Decision making, I am very much interested to study this course. So, I joined in this Degree Programme. Here I am learning about Statistical theoretical concepts as well as Data Analysis through various Software. Here I am gaining knowledge, skills, experience about the subject through well qualified faculty members. After graduating, I am enhancing my career through strong Data analysis and manipulation skills via analytical research methods in different areas viz. Agriculture, Social Sciences, Engineering, Management and other disciplines. The facilities which are available in the Department namely. Smart Board, E-Diksha, Training Hall and Computer Lab with Wi-fi and Statistical Softwares are very useful to any student of Agricultural Statistics. The periodical monthly Seminar also enhanced our knowledge and skills which will provide a learning platform for doing higher studies and research.

Myself Ms.Abinaya Rajam, was graduated B.Sc.(Agri.) from AC&RI, Killikulam, TNAU. I joined M.Sc. (Ag.) in Agricultural Statistics in 2018 at the Department of Physical Sciences & IT, AEC&RI, TNAU, Coimbatore. The two years of my stay in the University was a period for learning Statistical theory and Data analysis techniques. I gained Statistical knowledge and its applications in Agricultural and Allied Sciences.

The experienced faculty members always encouraged me and provided a guidance which helped me to pass the ARS NET examinations and also to join Ph.D. programme at Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi, UP. I am very proud to be part of this Degree programme at TNAU during 2018-2020.
