Courses offered by the department are very good to learn production aspects, processing and breeding aspects of different plantation, spices, medicinal and aromatic crops through practical knowledge. The lab facilities are good and the department has good collections of various spices and medicinal as well as aromatic crops in the fields offering a good exposure to the students. This course is helpful for the student to get wide opportunities in research, extension and teaching. Learning advancements in the technologies of crop production, protection and processing will be benefitting the farmers.
During my doctoral course and research work, I have learnt advances in cultivation, processing and breeding aspects of various plantation, medicinal and aromatic crops through practical experience. Hence, it is helpful to get opportunities in different industries such as, processing and coir industries, various spice and commodity boards. The department has good advanced infrastructure facilities like High Performance Thin Layer Chromatograph, Clevenger apparatus, microwave assisted extraction, accelerated solvent extraction, Soxhlet extraction unit, rotary evaporator etc., Availability of all these facilities has helped in successful completion of my research and also helped me gain knowledge in handling of such instruments which would add up to my profile. The department also has good collaboration with ICAR institutes such as IISR, Calicut; CPCRI, Kasargod, it is helpful for PG, Ph.D. scholars to get good scientific knowledge and connections with the principal scientists at various reputed institutions.
