- Fruit Science is an important branch of horticulture which deals with various aspects of fruits starting from raising of saplings, growing them properly, providing various intercultural operations, harvesting, ripening and marketing.

- Increasing production and productivity with good quality fruits are essential to feed the ever-growing population coupled with the declining land resources.
- Crop improvement through conventional and non-conventional breeding methods, production and post-harvest management of fruit crops are important aspects in Fruit Science which will help in combating many problems faced by fruit growers.
- Breeding for improved character in fruit crops is an important factor for imparting resistance to various biotic and abiotic stresses.

Study Programme
The Masters programme in Fruit science has been designed following the UGC guidelines. The course imparts:
- Educate the future generation on the crop management, conventional and molecular breeding of fruit crops of commercial importance through continuing education.

Master’s in Fruit Science courses
Master Courses
After admission the students undergo a set of courses that help them understand the basics of Fruit science as per the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) with a total credit load of 70 credits, of which 30 credits are exclusively earmarked for their Thesis Research.
Master’s thesis research
After completing the courses in the first year, the students start their thesis research. Each student is assigned to an experienced faculty, approved by the Dean of School of Post-Graduate Studies, who would guide the student on his/ her choice of research topic,
Research internship
The students are exposed to several scientific events like symposia and conferences. Many are encouraged to have internship training at other institutes for a couple of months, either in India or abroad.

I am glad to provide you with my feedback about the college. My overall experience to date has been amazing, and the college is having an amazing infrastructure. The college offers Parking ,24/7 security, WIFI, Hostel, canteen, xerox etc. facilities, It has facilities of laboratories, a very big library and a very big ground having sports centre. College has provided me with a number of opportunities to grow and explore my skills. Student gets a chance to be part of various extracurricular activities which helps them to build leadership. I have always found a positive and healthy environment and all faculties are highly qualified and they are great at teaching. Most of my doubts were cleared after the classes get over. Overall it is hard to get into this university but it is worth what we study here in. The tag of TNAU is something that impacts our life forever! TNAU is not just name it is best because they make students to face new challenges of world.

I, Vanmathi V done my M. Sc (Hort) Fruit Science in HC & RI, TNAU, Coimbatore. With immense pleasure, I share my experience here. The articulated and intelligent faculty helped us to widen our subject knowledge especially the recent cultivation and breeding aspects. The well-maintained orchard, well equipped analytical, molecular and tissue culture laboratory with hi-tech equipments and instruments provided an excellent academic environment to carry out the research work successfully. The practical experience gained during this program was extraordinary. My special, profound and grateful thanks to our beloved academic coordinator Dr. C. Indu Rani mam for the timely help rendered regarding all the academic things done without any hesitation and procrastination. Thanks to all the professors for their valuable guidance and constructive criticism during the entire degree program.
