Ph.D. in Forestry

Prelude

The forest in general and management in practical has witnessed a paradigm sift due to advancements made in science and technology coupled with the legal and policy changes. The growing demand for wood and wood products and increasing consciousness on conservation demanded application of advanced science and technology in forestry education. Considering this growing interest Forest College and Research Institute has introduced Ph.D programme in Forestry and incorporated all advances for conservation of natural forest and augmenting the productivity of plantation forest. The course curricula has been designed in such a way that the syllabus will inculcate the advanced scientific skills thereby heading to create professional man power requirement for the country.

Doctoral in forestry course

Doctoral Courses

After admission the students undergo a set of courses that help them understand the applied and advanced courses as per the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) with a total credit load of 100 credits, of which 75 credits are exclusively earmarked for their Thesis Research.

Doctoral’s thesis research

After completing the courses in the first year, the students start their thesis research. Each student is assigned to an experienced faculty, approved by the Dean of School of Post-Graduate Studies, who would guide the student on his/ her choice of research topic

Research internship

The students are exposed to several scientific events like symposia and conferences. Many are encouraged to have internship training at other institutes for a couple of months, either in India or abroad.

Jawahar Vishnu delighted to share my course experience and am completely satisfied with their teaching approach, the progress of the research work, and the intellectual guidance from the guides. I am also highly satisfied with the exposure visits to the various tree improvement trials during my course work. I’m very happy about the staff members and their approaches to motivating the students, covering the syllabus, providing learning materials, etc.

Myself Kiruthika, the Forestry course imparts practical coverage to various aspects such as real time exposure of field visits, forest based industries, forest based products. We got to know about advanced instrument like CNC. It has incubation forum that give platform to students who want to develop their entrepreneural skills. Overall, it enhances the skills and technical knowledge in students.
