NATIONAL CADET CORPS (NCC)
NSS/NCC is included in the curriculum of all the UG programmes. Students will undergo 0+1 course credit registering either for NSS or NCC. The course will be distributed over four semesters for I & II year students. At the end of IV semester volunteers are taken to the adopted village and carry out the special camping activities for a period of one week for completion of the credit requirement.
The National Cadet Corps unit of Agricultural College and Research Institute, Madurai, in which Community Science College & Research Institute, participate is functioning since 1965.The NCC unit of AC&RI, Madurai, in which the college NCC is functioning, has strength of 52 cadets and training is offered for three years to the cadets. The NCC unit of D12 Company is basically Infantry Battalion, part of the 7 TN BN NCC, Madurai Group and headed by Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry & Andaman & Nicobar directorate. Blue Whale Campaign, Girl Child Awareness Campaign, Uthiram, Marathon, Swatch Bharat campaign, Vaccination awareness rally, Cader Camp and Tree Plantation were organised.
Outcome:
Two boys of B.Sc (Home Science) of D/12 coy attended the firing competition at battalion level and got selected for the Group level competition. At group level competition, one of our cadets Mr.Vignesh was selected for the Zonal level shooting competition at ParamathiVelur during May 2015.
B Certificates were received by five boys and 29 girls, while C certificate was received by 10 boys and twenty-three girls for the period 2014-2020. Cadet Sathya CM passed both Certificate “B” and “C” Exam under the authority of Ministry of Defense, GOI and also received Best Cadet-Position II Certificate during combined Annual Training Camp.
1. NCC Camps:
Camps are the outside institutional training conducted with different objectives. It is mandatory for a cadet to complete at least one Combined Annual Training Camp (usually 10 days) before each certificate exam (Either B or C exam).

2. Weapon trainings
The art of handling the weapon is also pre- requisite for a NCC cadet to go with weapon drill and also use it during emergency period. During the year 2022-23, the cadets are deliberately taught about the parts and components of 0.202 rifle, 0.303 rifle, Indian Small Arms System (INSAS), Self-Loading Rifle (SLR), LMG (Light Machine Gun) and MMG (Medium Machine Gun) on the last parade. The loading and unloading, Stripping and Assembling and also the cleaning methods were taught to the cadets with original rifles in the Battalion by the trained army staff.
3. Certificate Examinations
A total of 12 and 11 numbers of cadets have completed the ‘B’ and ‘C’ examinations successfully with A grade from our college during 2022-23.

4. NCC day celebrations
The NCC day was celebrated during the last week of November every year. The cadets were exhibited their talents by delivering the National Integration Messages in English and Tamil, sung the patriotic songs, mime acting and pyramid structures in befitting manner. The Dean of AC&RI, Madurai presided over the function and delivered the presidential address.
5. Guard of honour
The NCC cadets have involved in the rigorous training to the Independence Day (15th August) and Republic Day (26th January). The parade created goosebumps on everyone and made really happy, very energetic on that day. The timely command, foot movements and turn out of cadet’s were perfectly matched with the beating of drums very alluring that created the remembrance of the National parade in New Delhi. This parade specially had praise from all corners and was also well appreciated by the staff and viewers. The girl cadets were equally good as the boys and their performance was flamboyant. It’s really a matter of team work, hard work, sincerity and practice which brought the best out of every NCC cadet. They have posted the tremendous guard of honour in the presence of the Dean, Agricultural College and Research Institute, Madurai and also given the flag salute to the Tricolour flag of India.
6. Hiking programmes
The cadets were actively involved in the hiking programmes to Yanaimalai with utmost interest.
Yanamalai: The hiking programme has been organised for the NCC cadets to Yanamalai hill. The Cadets were actively participated and attained the top of the hillock in quick passion. It gave the cadets self-confidence, enthusiasm and good co-ordination.
7. Obstacle training
The obstacle course is launched at our college during 2000 and consist of ten obstacles viz., Straight balance, Clear jump, Gate Vault, Zig –zag balance, High wall, Double- ditch, Right hand vault, Left hand vault, Ramp and straight balance. There is an exclusive class for this obstacle training and will be dealt by trained person.
