New initiatives and achievements in student’s welfare activities during 2024 – 2025
The academic year 2024–2025 witnessed a transformational impact on the student community of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) through numerous initiatives, programs, and accomplishments coordinated by the Centre for Students Welfare (CSW). Focused on holistic development, career readiness, academic enhancement, and physical well-being, the CSW introduced diverse programs catering to undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral students across all constituent colleges of TNAU.
Skill Development and Capacity Building
To strengthen communication and employability skills, TNAU introduced foreign language coaching programs in German and French (both offline and online), alongside spoken English training, benefiting 209 students. The University also offered competitive exam training including UPSC Foundation Courses (in partnership with Aram IAS Academy and Shankar IAS Academy), Bank Exam coaching, ICAR-JRF, and CAT coaching, collectively trained 232 aspirants for civil services and higher education. Additionally, pre-placement training sessions and career readiness workshops were organized for both agricultural, Horticultural and engineering students with the support of corporate trainers like Leaders Desk, preparing 215 students effectively for industry expectations.
Placement and Career Opportunities
TNAU facilitated job fairs in Coimbatore and for engineering graduates at Kumulur, attracting 36 companies and resulting in the placement of 315 students. Students were placed in esteemed firms like ITC, HDFC, Federal Bank, IPL Biologicals, and Akshayakalpa, with attractive salary packages reaching up to ₹12.34 LPA. Additionally, 145 secured government jobs through TNPSC, UPSC, ASRB, and central banking positions, reflecting the strong career support and preparation provided.
Academic Support and Library Enhancement
TNAU’s commitment to academic excellence was bolstered through massive library resource expansion. 3,060 new books, 110 journals, and 68 newsletters were added. The digital library now houses more than 28,000 e-books and e-journals, including reputed databases such as Springer, Elsevier, Wiley, CeRA, and DOAJ. With a user base of 4,800+ members, including students, researchers, and staff, over 2.6 lakh CeRA articles were accessed, highlighting an impressive academic engagement.
Sports and Extracurricular Achievements
TNAU students achieved significant recognition at state, national, and international levels in various sports disciplines. Notable achievements include: Gold Medal in the 4th Asian Roll Ball Championship, Multiple medals in Wushu, Karate, Silambam, and Shooting Championships, Victories in CM Trophy events, Agricultural Intercollegiate JEUX D’ Agri 24, and national athletic meets. These accomplishments underscore the university’s emphasis on physical education, discipline, and talent promotion.
Student Engagement and Recognition
The university organized events like felicitation ceremonies for UPSC/TNPSC achievers, elocution competitions for the Indian Science Congress, and sensitization training for NSS officers. The CSW also hosted international delegations from Australia and Canada (e.g., Western Sydney University, Dalhousie University) and World Bank’s NAHEP–IDP team to evaluate student facilities and academic infrastructure, especially the Advanced Digital Language Lab.
